There are 38 [ 34 + 4 (for extended area) ] Election Wards of this Corporation. Each Ward Consist 3 seats of Councilor. Out of them 33 % of seats are reserved for Female. Thus 38 [ 34 + 4 (for extended area) ] seats out of 114 [102 + (12 for extended area) ] total seats are reserved for Female candidates. Seats for Scheduled cast & Tribes as - well - as other Backward class candidates are also reserved as per the Population Figure of 2001 Census.

Provisions regarding preparation of Electoral Roll

Under the provision of section 8 (2) of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act. (B.P.M.C. Act.) the list of voters shall be the same as Electoral Roll of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly prepared and revised in accordance with the provision and the representation of the People Act. 1950 for the time being in force and as revised, modified, updated and published in accordance with provision of sub-section.

Provision under Electoral Registration Rule 1994

The electoral rolls are prepared as per the provision of the said Act. Prevailing at that time and draft was prepared on the basis of revised electoral roll of legislative Assembly which was preliminary published as per Rule 4 (3) of the election rule. Chapter : 1 schedule of BPMC Act. Thereafter under the provision of Rule 6 any person who has become eligible to register his name in the electoral Roll of Vidhan Sabha under the provisions of the rules and the Act and his name could not be entered as stated as above and those persons under the provision of Rule : 4 has to apply to the Electoral Registration Officer in a prescribed form : "K" with supporting / recommending signature for inclusion of his name in the electoral roll of concerned ward within 22 days of publication of draft electoral roll. For this purpose as per the provision of Rule 3 (1) of the Electoral Registration Rule, 1994, Municipal Commissioner, Surat is appointed as the Electoral Registration Officer and as per the provision of the Rule 3 (2) Asstt. Municipal Commissioner as-well-as Spl. Officer (Election & Census) are appointed as the Asstt. Electoral Registration Officer.

Under the provision of Section - 8 of the BPMC Act. and Electoral Registration Rule for the concerned rolls in reference to earlier preliminary publication. The claim objection application as per for : " K " at the section - 8 (4) the details about original residential address, ward number, vibhag number and serial number is Election Rolls are stated correctly them those voter's name is included in the proper place i.e. as per his last residential address.

The claimants who have not given their correct particulars as per provision of Rule: 6 in the prescribed form "K" or due to not support residential proof with the claim application or those person who were called for personal hearing for pending documentary evidence and those persons not remaining present at the time of hearing all those claim applications are filed.

The above procedure is adopted after every instant of the preparation as well as revision of the electoral rolls of Gujarat Legislative Assembly, as per the directions, guidance and order of the state Election Commission
