Major projects/works completed :
1. Construction of Vehicle Service Station complex at Ruderpura:

This world bank aided project was completed in 1993 at an estimated cost of Rs. 35 lacs for Health Department.

2. Construction of Transfer Station complex at Anjana:

This world banks aided project was completed in 1993 at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 lacs for Health Department.

3. Singanpore Weir Project:

The cell carried out major role in co-ordinating between HAIA and SMC for construction of multipurpose project of Singanpore Weir.The construction of weir was completed in 1995 at an estimated cost of Rs. 3500 lacs. The project was financed by (HAIA)Hazira Area Industries Association and after construction was handed over to the Corporation for operation and maintenance according to agreement made. The project has proved to be boon to Surat City. Surat City has flourished tremendously in terms of population and industries during past decade. The corporation provides drinking water to citizens of Surat from the reservoir of weir. HAIA also draws water supply for their industrial requirement needless to say these mega industries have flourished very well and have enhanced prosperity and development in the region. Tidal silting and pollution brought along with tides have been restricted upto the weir in the river. Ground water salinity ingress in areas u/s. of weir have been reduced considerably due to reservoir of weir. River banks in the reservoir were also subject to tidal erosion prior to construction of weir.

4. Construction of double box RCC storm drain at Rander:

The work was carried out to develop approach road for Singanpore weir at Rander. The work was completed in 1995 at an estimated cost of Rs.40 Lacs.

5. Construction of Control Tower Building at SInganpore Weir:

The work was completed in 1995 at an estimated cost of Rs. 14 Lacs.

6. Erection, testing and commissioning of 2 Nos. 30 mt. high electric Highmast light poles at     Singanpore Weir:

The work was completed in 1995 at an estimated cost of Rs.16 Lacs.

7. Fabricating and fixing Chainlink fence at Singanpore Weir:

The work was completed in 1995 at an estimated cost of Rs.10 Lacs.

8. Construction of Transport Godown complex at Puna Kumbharia:

The cell during 2000 carried out supervision work for construction of Transport Godown complex which was built by organiser/builder of Millennium Market on ring road for the old Transport Godown occupants on the plot.

9. Construction of Flood Protection Gates(22 Nos) on outlets of different storm water drains     leading to river Tapi:

The department has completed the construction of flood protection gates at 15 locations in the year 1999 at the total cost of Rs.210 lacs. The works were completed in 3 months. Total 22 Nos. of Cast Iron manually operated vertical sliding gates are provided. Normally these gates are kept open, but at the time of heavy floods in the river Tapi, these gates will be closed, to prevent the entry of flood water in to the city.

10. Construction of earthen embankment at Village Tunki, Surat:

As a part of Flood protection scheme on river Tapi Construction of 725 mt. long earthen embankment with rubble pitching was carried out in 2000 at an estimated cost of Rs. 136 lacs.

11. Construction of Sluice regulator at Village Tunki:

As a part of Flood protection scheme on river Tapi Construction of Sluice Regulator on natural creek near Barimata at Tunki was carried out in 2000 at an estimated cost of Rs. 214 lacs.

12. Construction of flood gate structure for Singanpore STP and storm drsin at Bharimata,Surat:

For fasciliating discharge of Singanpore sewage treatment into river and preventing flood water entering into storm box drain of Singanpore area a composite structure was designed and constructed at Bharimata at an estimated cost of Rs. 131 lacs in year 2003.

13. Temporary flood protective work at Rander Panch Pipli temple:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2004 at an estimated cost of Rs.1.00 lacs.

14. Temporary flood protective work at I.P.Mission School, Muglisara:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2004 at an estimated cost of Rs.6.00 lacs.

15. Temporary flood protective work at Bharimata bank:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2004 at an estimated cost of Rs.50.00 lacs.

16. Temporary flood protective work at Singanpore bank:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2004 at an estimated cost of Rs.20.00 lacs.

17. Temporary flood protective work at Bharimata bank:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2005 at an estimated cost of Rs.54.00 lacs.

18. Temporary flood protective work at Singanpore bank:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2005 at an estimated cost of Rs.33.00 lacs.

19. Temporary flood protective work at Ved,Karada and Tunki bank:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2005 at an estimated cost of Rs.14.00 lacs.

20. Bank Protection work at Singanpore bank of river Tapi:

The work was undertaken and completed in 2006 at an estimated cost of Rs.1000.00 lacs.

21. Bank Protection work at Rander bank of river Tapi(Phase-1):

The work was undertaken and completed in 2006 at an estimated cost of Rs.1635.00 lacs.

22. Bank Protection work at Bharimata bank of river Tapi (Phase-1):

The work was undertaken and completed in 2006 at an estimated cost of Rs.1570.00 lacs.

Major on going projects :
1.Bank protection work at Rander:

The work is required for flood protection of Rander, Jahangirpura , Adajan etc. areas.The phase-1 of project had been completed up to R.L.4.5 Mt. and for phase-2 above 4.5 Mt R.L. work is in progress.The total estimated cost for Phase-2 is 800.00 Lacs.

2. Bank protection work at Bharimata:

The work is required for flood protection of Dhastipura,Bharimata,Katargam etc. areas. The phase-1 of project had been completed for @ 425 Mt length and for phase-2 @ 700 Mtlength work is in progress.The total estimated cost for Phase-2 is 1590.00 Lacs.

3.Bank protection work at Panchpipli Rander:

The work is required for flood protection of Rander, Jahangirpura , Adajan etc. areas.The work is in progress.The total estimated cost for work is 241.00 Lacs.

4. Preparation of flood Inundation map of Surat City.

The Surat Municipal Corporation has decided to prepare a flood inundation map of Surat city after heavy flood of Aug-2006.The work include taking contour survey and H.F.L. of Surat City .The work also includes to examine the area flooded for various discharges of flood.

5. Tapi river front development:

The Tapi river front development project mainly constitutes of the following :

  • Flood Diversion
  • Multipurpose Rubber Dam
  • River Drive Road & other development

Consultant EPCDPM, Ahmedabad and Dr. M.D.Desai have been engaged by the Corporation to prepare preliminary concept plan for the project. CWPRS, Pune has been engaged to conduct mathematical model study for establishing feasibility study of the project. The feasibility study work for the project has been started in the year 2005.The final report awaited from CWPRS,Pune

Major future projects /works :
1. Bank protection work at Singanpore:

The Phase-1 of project had been completed for river side bank protection.The phase-2 for City side and Top of bank has been taken shortly by the department. The estimated cost of the project is about Rs.500 lacs.

2. Sluice regulator on Varachha Creek:

The work is required for flood protection of Varachha, Magob, Dumbhal, Simada etc. areas. Hydrographic survey and soil investigation was conducted for the site. Consultant Hydropneum, Pune was engaged to prepare design for the work. Design clearance from Central Design Organisation, Gandhinagar was obtained Prequalification of the tenderers for the work is completed. The estimated cost of the project is about Rs.700 lacs. The work is expected to begin in this year celebrated as Urban Year 2008.
