This white porcelain piece is showing the
Radha-Krishna couple, seated on a decorative pedestal, in intimate
conversation with each other, in rapt attention. On the flute, so
favourite of Krishna, besides his fingers, fingers of Radha are also
seen caressing it. Three calves, attracted by the melodious sound of
Krishna's flute, as if under a spell, seem to share the feeling of
intimacy of the divine couple. Thus, the entire scene appears alive. The
peculiarity of this piece is the Gujarati manner in which Radhaji has
worn her saree, indicating that the image is created by a Gujarati
artist. In this piece, made at the beginning of this century, the minute
details of the dress as well as the anatomy are proportionate. This
captivates the viewer.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever; its loveliness increases;
it will never pass into nothingness. - John Keats
Art is not a handicraft, it is the transmission of feeling the
artist has experinced. - Oscar Wilde
