The Government of Gujarat decided to celebrate Gujarat Gavrav Din at Surat on 1st May 2004. As a part of it large number of
programmes were carried out by the Government and Surat Municipal Corporation. Among which the City Gallery was inaugurated on
2nd May 2004, by Hon. Mayor Shrimati Snehalataben Chauhan, at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Museum. Shri Kalyanbhai Kanani, Dy. Mayor,
Shri Shankerbhai Chevli, Standing Comittee Chairman, Shri Murlidher Patil, Leader ruling party, Shrimati Rupaben Zaveri, Cultural
committee Chairman, Muni. Commissioner Shri G. R. Aloria and other member of the elected body and the administrative officers were
present at the inaugural function.
The Surat City Gallery displays the history and development of the city from the Ancient time to the present. This gallery is the
only place which gives the information of the development of the Surat city as a whole. The gallery is divided into various
sections, these sections helps to know the history of the city in a sequence. The brief of each sections are as following :

On the day of the inauguration of the Surat City Gallery a folder and a calendar which display the historicity of
Surat was released by hon. Mayor and other dignitaries at the S. V. Patel Museum.
